Why You Should Report Your Storm Damage in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA - Thousands of residents are still waiting for power to be restored which even more are still working to clean up the mess left behind by last week's storm. Straight line winds as high as 80 mph were reported across the region and thousands of trees were damaged or destroyed.

This storm caused damage to hundreds of homes and businesses all around Shreveport and Bossier. You are urged to report your damage so local officials can keep track of the total number of residents impacted. This total matters because it might help the region quality for state and federal assistance. You also might qualify for emergency help from FEMA. Mayor Tom Arceneaux tells KEEL News they have reports already of more than 800 homes or businesses damaged, but he knows that number is probably much higher.

How to Report Your Damage

If you have damage to anything around your home or business, you should call the local Homeland Security number at 318 675-2255 or log on and report your issues at damage.la.gov.

You are reminded that if the damage to your home is at your weather head, that is your responsibility and Swepco can not make those repairs.

More than 3,000 workers from all across the country are in our area working 16 hour days to restore the power. They have been making steady progress each day. But they are finding many homes have damage to the weather head. Those folks will have to get an electrician out to make those repairs before the power can be restored.

Help is also available to folks who lost food because of this widespread power outage. The American Red Cross of Louisiana says you can apply for assistance by calling 1 800 RED CROSS (733-2767) or log on to Redcross.org to request help.
