Parents Are Advised Not To Buy Live Bunnies For Children For Easter

Sure, go ahead and let the Easter Bunny bring your child a bunny for Easter...just make sure it's chocolate and not a real one.

According to the SPCA of Louisiana, every year around Easter, animal shelters see an influx of bunnies because parents think it's a good idea to buy a live bunny for their children when, in fact, they've really bitten off more than they can chew.

According to our friends at Louisiana Radio Network, Alicia Haefele, with the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says:

“They're living beings. They require a lot of care. Rabbits can live between 10 to 15 years, and there’s so much you have to do to prep your home and care for a bunny. As long as they have done the research and are aware of the things it will take to care for that bunny long term, then there’s nothing wrong with getting a rabbit.”

In other words, having 'Fluffy' join the family is great, but make sure you do your research so that you have to take him back.
