Late last week, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that one lane of the Jimmie Davis Bridge would be closed from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am this Thursday, October 10.

DOTD stated this closure was necessary to allow the contractor for the Jimmie Davis Bridge project to mobilize equipment in order to pour concrete for the test shaft for the new bridge.  However, that scheduled lane closure has just been canceled.  According to DOTD, that closure will be rescheduled for a later date.

While late night motorists dodged a bullet on this one, there will be a traffic wrinkle for weekend daytime drivers as DOTD has just announced a separate closure of the Jimmie Davis Bridge for this Sunday, October 13.

For the purpose of routine bridge inspection, DOTD will close the eastbound lane of the LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Bridge) from approximately 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, with traffic being allowed to cross the bridge through the use of flagging operations.

As with all DOTD projects, the work will be done "Weather Permitting" so inclement weather could postpone, extend or alter scheduled work days/hours.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
