Walmart is planning to build a Supercenter in the north Shreveport/Blanchard area.

It would be built on a 29-acre tract of land on Louisiana Highway-One between Pinehill Road and Highway 538. (The specific address would be 5700 North Market.)

Walmart spokeswoman Anne Hatfield says the intent is to have the store open in the Fall of 2015.  Hatfield says the store will provide about 300 jobs and will offer all of the amenities that shoppers have come to expect from a Walmart Supercenter.

Residents in the north Shreveport and Blanchard areas have been asking for many years for more shopping opportunities so they don't have to drive all the way across town.

Preliminary plans for the new store will go before the Metropolitan Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals at their November meetings.
