New Traffic Issue With Lane Closures on I-49 Starting Today
The latest traffic development in Northwest Louisiana could see motorists experiencing somewhat lengthy delays for the course of the weekend.
In an advisory from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development we learn that beginning today, Friday, September 20, there will be intermittent closures on I-49 in both the northbound and southbound directions north of Shreveport in the Mooringsport area of Caddo Parish to allow SWEPCO to move a transmission line across the interstate.
This operation will take place from approximately 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily through Sunday, September 22, near Exit 223-LA 169.
The rest of the interstate corridor north and south of this location will not be affected.
The intermittent closures will take place in 15 minute increments, and then the roadway will be reopened to allow any stopped vehicles to travel through. This configuration will then repeat.
Of course, the work will be performed weather permitting, so inclement weather could postpone, extend or alter work days/hours.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
