The latest data from Consumer Reports says that around 30% of Americans have reported a significant rise in the cost of their prescription drugs over the last 12 months.  Couple that with the fact that more of us than ever are taking some sort of non-over the counter medicine on a regular basis, and it's clear - the cost of getting and staying healthy is going up.

A new program, conceived by a partnership between Louisiana, Mississippi, and Sam's Club pharmacies, aims to change that by doing the unthinkable - giving away certain prescription drugs for free.  No, that's not a typo - if you take one of the 9 approved medicines, you can pick up your prescription at no charge.

According to a report from KSLA, there are some hoops you'll have to jump through: First, you will need to get your own Sam's Club Plus membership ($100 for a year-long membership).  Secondly, you must sign up for the pilot program before  April 20th, 2020. Lastly, you must have a prescription for one of the following drugs:

  • Lisinopril
  • Metformin
  • Sertraline
  • Montelukast
  • Donepezil
  • Pioglitazone
  • Escitalopram
  • Finasteride
  • Vitamin D2 50,000 IU
