If you know me, you know that my calendar is basically built around festival season in Shreveport. And let’s be honest: nothing kicks off a Louisiana summer quite like the smell of spicy crawfish and the sound of a washboard ringing through Downtown.

Mudbug Madness is officially back for its 42nd year, taking over Festival Plaza (101 Crockett St, Shreveport, LA 71101) starting Friday, May 22nd, through Sunday, May 24th.

The entertainment lineup this year is absolutely stacked, featuring heavy hitters like Stoney LaRue, Casey Donahew, and The Chee Weez. Whether you are there for the legendary crawfish-eating contests or the non-stop Zydeco and Cajun beats, this weekend is going to be epic.

However, a safe and family-friendly environment is a top priority, which means there are some rules you might not know about. To save you from a long walk back to your vehicle, we’ve broken down the list of what you can (and definitely can’t) bring through the gates.

What to Leave at Home (Prohibited Items)

Backpacks & Large Bags: Keep it small! Large purses and bags are not allowed.

Outside Food or Drinks: Leave the snacks and sodas behind—the festival food is the main attraction anyway!

Your Furry Friends: Unfortunately, pets aren't invited to this one. No animals are allowed inside the plaza.

Coolers & Containers: No need to pack a cooler; ice-cold beverages are available throughout the grounds.

Professional Materials: No distribution of flyers or political/religious activity is permitted.

Signs & Banners: Leave the flags and banners at home to ensure everyone has a great view of the stage.

Illegal Substances & Weapons: These are strictly prohibited to ensure a safe weekend for everyone.

Allowed (But Expect a Search!)

You are allowed to bring folding chairs, which is great news if you want to set up a home base near the stage for the headliners. Diaper bags are also permitted for those bringing the little ones. Just keep in mind that all personal items are subject to search at the gate.

Mudbug Madness is the heartbeat of our city’s Memorial Day weekend. Plan ahead, follow the guidelines, and I’ll see you at the crawfish tables!
