Watch Baseball Great Tell Funniest Hunting Story You’ve Ever Seen
With archery deer season starting next Tuesday, October 1, hunting is in the air!
Louisiana's early teal season just concluded yesterday and October 5, we'll see the opening of Louisiana's squirrel season, but with the lion share of hunters in our area choosing to chase those majestic whitetails, center-stage belongs to deer season's opening for archers on October 1.
Youth and honorably discharged veterans will see their special season October 12 through October 18. Then hunters with primitive weapons will be allowed to hunt October 19 through 25 and then season for modern firearms is set to begin here in Area 2 on October 26.
There are 11.4 million licensed deer hunters in America, so it's obvious that it's one of the most popular of all outdoor sports.
Louisiana is home to 208,000 of those deer hunters and Texas has 757,000 deer hunters, so it's pretty obvious that you don't have to look far to find a hunter in a crowd, and this is the time of year all those hunters begin to have visions of the coming season, and start telling stories of those seasons gone by.
One of those hunters was the late Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle.
During an interview, Mickey once told one of the funniest hunting stories ever caught on film. It was about a trip that he and Billy Martin had taken.
It all started when Billy began to manage the Texas Rangers and was given a new deer rifle, so he asked Mickey to take him hunting.
I'll let Mickey take it from here.
