One of my absolute favorite things to do whenever friends or family come to visit is to drive them down Elvis Presley Avenue to show off the iconic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. We truly have so much incredible history right here in our own backyard, and let's be honest, we deserve to brag a little about how rich our community is in culture, soul, and legendary music!

If you love our local history as much as I do, clear your schedule for this Friday. The Shreveport Municipal Auditorium is hosting Louisiana’s Gift to America: A Musical Legacy, a special, free event celebrating our state's profound impact on American music as part of the nation's 250th anniversary.

Louisiana gave the world Cajun, zydeco, jazz, swamp blues, and soul. To honor that legacy, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, SRAC, and LPB are bringing together an extraordinary lineup of powerhouse performers for one unforgettable night:

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet: The legendary Grammy-winning Cajun band led by 2026 Humanist of the Year Michael Doucet.

The Dr. Michael White Quartet: Masterful traditional New Orleans jazz led by renowned historian and NEA National Heritage Fellow Dr. Michael White.

A.J. Haynes: Grammy-winning lead vocalist of the Seratones, bringing her soulful, contemporary Louisiana storytelling to the stage.

Hosted by cultural historian Ben Sandmel, the evening will feature live performances blended with artist conversations exploring how our local sounds helped shape the soundtrack of the entire nation.

It is only fitting that this celebration is happening at the Municipal, the historic home of the Louisiana Hayride where Elvis famously launched his career.
