Comic book, movie, and wrestling nerds prepare yourself, I've got some bad news.  The Louisiana Comic-Con slated for this weekend in Lafayette, Louisiana with stars like Doug Jones (Abe Sapien from Hellboy - pictured above with Ron Pearlman) and legendary wrestling promoter Jimmy Hart has been cancelled.

In a strange turn of events however, it was not because of the rising COVID-19 cases in our state - it's because of a little lady named Ida.  In case you don't recognize the name, here's a picture:

Ida is a hurricane currently churning in the Gulf Mexico, and forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are predicting that it will make landfall in Louisiana over the weekend.  In light of that news, Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency yesterday, and the City of Lafayette has been placed under a Hurricane Watch.

Based on that information, representatives with AVC Conventions (owners of the event) made the difficult decision to cancel in order to protect attendees, guests, and event staff from the impending storm.  Show-runners with the convention posted this release to the official Louisiana Comic-Con page:

Although it’s always a tough decision to cancel an event, the impending weather is a concern for a multitude of reasons, with the current forecast putting tropical storm Ida heading directly towards Louisiana, and eventually reaching hurricane status, time is of the essence to give all of those involved with our event the opportunity to prepare for the weather and put themselves in position to be as safe as possible. We don’t want to shrug off the warnings being issued and surely don’t want anyone stuck and unable to make it home.

Refunds for the event slated for this weekend at Lafayette Cajundome are being doled out as you read this.  If you had plans for this event and already purchased your tickets, you can find out about the refund process here.

History Of Geek'd Con Guests

Geek'd Con is Shreveport's biggest comic and pop culture event. Launching in 2015, the event quickly became one of the premiere comic con style events in the entire state of Louisiana.

A big part of that growth has been the celebrity guest lineups. Since the first show in 2015, the quality of guests attending Geek'd Con rivals any pop culture event of this size. From classic Star Wars stars to guests from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Geek'd Con has welcomed the biggest names from multiple generations. Here's a look at the history of guests at Geek'd Con.
