Come on Louisiana hunters, we are better than this! (Aren't we?)

This Saturday, October 11, marks the opening of Youth/Veterans special deer week in Area 2 of Northwest Louisiana.

Primitive weapons season will get underway next Saturday, October 18 and run through October 24. Then, on Saturday, October 25, it's modern firearms season.

However, the annual "corn bags on the roadside wars" have already begun.

My house is less than ten miles from Bodcau WMA and due to that proximity, every year I'm forced into "road cleanup mode" as thoughtless deer hunters litter the roadside with emptied deer corn bags carelessly left in the back of their trucks to become the problem waste for "someone else."

Sadly, I'm not the only one. There are literally hundreds who complain of the same issue.

As a deer hunter myself, I wonder just how bad of a name these idiots give the rest of our ever-shrinking number.

Looking through the multiple posts on Facebook, it's sad to see deer hunters called out everywhere for this totally avoidable act of littering.

The Bienville Parish Sheriff's Department Is Asking Nicely

This issue is totally avoidable. For those who are still just throwing those bags in the back of their truck to be blown out, let me provide the simple steps for prevention.

  1. Fill your corn feeders
  2. Using one emptied corn bag as a receptacle, shove all the other emptied corn bags inside
  3. Place those bags/receptacles inside your vehicle (NOT in the bed of your truck)
  4. Take them home or toss into the nearest public dumpster
  5. Ta Da!  You are now part of the solution; not the problem

Wild Animals Illegal To Keep As Pets in Louisiana

While a person might consider it novel to keep lions, tigers or bears as a pet in Louisiana, they are among the list of wild animals forbidden to be kept by private citizens as pets. These are just some those animals Louisiana law completely forbids from ownership.
