To say that traffic on Shreveport's Line Avenue is somewhat congested is like saying that a ghost pepper is a little spicy.

However, in an effort to alleviate some of the traffic strain and improve safety at Line Avenue's intersection with Ashley Ridge Boulevard, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced their intentions to begin a project to realign the existing left turn lanes on LA 523 (Line Avenue) onto Ashley Ridge.

Of course, when it comes to traffic flow, improvement always comes with an immediate cost, and motorists in this area will effectively begin paying that price this Thursday, July 27, as construction of the somewhat lengthy project will bring on numerous intermittent lane closures on LA 523 south of LA 3132.

The $645,854 project also involves extending the length of the left turn lane onto LA 3132 westbound from LA 523 in order to allow for additional vehicle storage capacity, to alleviate congestion on LA 523, particularly during peak times.

Motorists should be aware that lane closures will shift as the project progresses, and to expect possible delays during peak travel times.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2023, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

As with all other current or future projects, the DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
