Krystal’s Counting Down the Days Until Anderson’s Produce Opens for the Season

Farm-fresh produce just tastes better. The flavor is fuller and more vibrant, and you know you're supporting local agriculture. Although we may not celebrate it or yell it through the rooftops as often as we should, Louisiana is actually rich when it comes to agriculture.

That's part of the reason I'm excited that Anderson's Produce & Plant Farm is getting ready to open for the season. They'll be at the Shreveport Farmer's Market every Saturday starting June 4, and their farm-based market in Coushatta opens mid-May.

Last summer, I took the 45-minute to visit the farm, and it was like immersing myself in a real-time documentary. I was able to ask questions about how the peas are harvested, and I was also allowed to harvest a pepper or two. One of the coolest things for me was being able to walk around eating a peach that had been picked off the tree just a few hours before I pulled up to the farm.

You can explore the farm, shop locally grown seasonal vegetables and fruit and purchase locally sourced meat from Cason Farms.
