Arizona Seriously Want to Change Their Greeting To Be “Howdy”
A new bipartisan bill introduced in legislature wants to make "Howdy" Arizona's official "state greeting." But are they stealing that from Texas?
"Howdy" is a great way to greet someone when you don't want to use the basics like "hi" or "hello". But have you ever heard anyone in Arizona use it? Apparently, it's a big thing in the Grand Canyon state because now Arizona lawmakers want it to be the official state greeting! And I have to say, as a native Texan, I object!
According to Fox 10 Phoenix, HB2764, which was introduced by Kevin Volk (D-District 17), is a bill that adds a section to Arizona law. The bill is really short, and merely states "Howdy is the official state greeting." The bill also states that it would be good for tourism stating it would add a bit of “cultural character” and reflect the state’s “welcoming spirit.”
But does "howdy" really reflect the Arizona vibe? Support from locals were a bit mixed.
I have to agree with the fellow who said that it fits best for TEXAS!
While Arizona is most certainly in the southwest, and "howdy" would seem completely appropriate, the word just doesn't really match up with the vibe of Arizona.
"Howdy" definitely has a bigger use in the Lone Star state! Howdy is already used as the official greeting of Texas A&M- obviously because we use it so much in our everyday language!
Sure, howdy is probably used in Arizona, but, honestly, when you think of the greeting "howdy" does Arizona come to mind first?
We'll have to wait and see how they vote to see if "howdy" will be the state's official greeting.
