Nick Saban Calls Former LSU Football Star, Lafayette Native a ‘F-ing Problem’
In a recent episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants," legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban had high praise for Malik Nabers, a former LSU standout and Lafayette native. Saban's glowing endorsement came during a conversation with Giants head coach Brian Daboll, where he described Nabers as a "f---ing problem" on the field.
Nabers, selected sixth overall by the New York Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been turning heads with his performance and potential. Saban's comments highlight just how much of a playmaker Nabers was during his college career, especially when facing top-tier competition like Alabama.
"On the ride in, I was talking with Nick Saban," Daboll recounted to Giants general manager Joe Schoen. "I asked him about the top players in this draft, and he immediately brought up Malik. Saban went off on how much of a problem Nabers was when they played LSU. He also mentioned Georgia's Blake Bowers as another player who gave them fits."
Nabers' performance against Alabama last season was a testament to his talent. He caught 10 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to dominate even against the toughest defenses. This impressive display left a lasting impression on Saban, who rarely offers such high praise.
During the draft process, Giants wide receivers coach Mike Groh expressed his confidence in Nabers, telling team owner John Mara that he would take Nabers over any other wide receiver in the draft. Schoen echoed this sentiment, referring to Nabers as a "dog" during his draft visit.
Saban's endorsement has only fueled the excitement surrounding Nabers' potential in the NFL. While it's too early to predict his career trajectory, the combination of his raw talent, work ethic, and the high regard from one of college football's most respected coaches suggests that the Giants may have landed a future superstar.
As the Giants gear up for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Malik Nabers to see if he can live up to the lofty expectations set by his college performances and Saban's formidable praise.
If his past is any indication, the Giants and their fans have every reason to be optimistic about their new No. 1 receiver.
