Two East Texas Festivals Make List of Weirdest Fall Events in US
We Love a Good Festival in the South.
One thing that will always make us get giddy is when the heat lets up and we can finally go outside without sweating. It is safe to say that some of the best festivals happen during the fall. What about a weird Fall Festival? Thrillest scoured all the Fall Festivals and events in America and they closed in on 15 different festivals and two festivals in Texas have made the list.
These Festivals are Not Typical, They are Very Very Weird.
In Wisconsin, they have the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw Festival Although this festival isn't technically during the fall, Thrillest claimed it was "too absurd to skip" As crazy as it sounds Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin has people throwing dried buffalo chips AKA poop from August 30th through the 31st. Remember reading about people using dried buffalo poop as fuel to warm the house? Welp, that's the backstory there.
There is also a festival where husbands are tasked with carrying their wives. Newry, Maine is home to the North American Wife Carrying Championship; where husbands carry their wives through a dry and muddy 278-yard obstacle course, either fireman-style, piggyback, or the most popular method is the Estonian Carry where the husband flips his wife upside-down with her legs around his shoulders. The heavier the wife the better, because the winning team scores the wife's weight in beer, and if that wasn't enough five times her weight in cash. Can you say "cha-ching"?
Two East Texas Towns Made the List of Weirdest Fall Events.
Of course, Jefferson and Marshall, Texas made the list. Marshall's FireAnt Festival
takes over on October 12th. The FireAnt festival began in 1982 in Texas, The FireAnt Festival claims they have a festival with "Amazing festival food, unique product vendors, live performances, contests, and an outdoor concert around the steps of the historic Harrison County courthouse."
