Shreveport’s 91°: Record Heat, Summer Warning?
How hot will the summer of 2025 be? Let's just make sure we don't have too many outdoor events planned.
Louisiana isn't known for having beautiful summers; it's a given that Louisiana is a hot place. Do you remember the great snowstorm in New Orleans? You should because it just happened. On average, the Bayou State gets 0.2 inches of snow per year. However, on January 21st, 2025, New Orleans broke a crazy record, 8.0 inches of snow. That number is insane because the previous record was 2.7 inches on December 31st, 1963. So, does this mean that 2025 will be a year of insane record-breaking weather?
Did Tuesday, March 25th Feel Like an Abnormally Hot Day?
I decided to play some tennis outdoors, and the day felt extra miserable. Isn't March supposed to feel like a beautiful spring day? We are already struggling with horrid pollen, and now we have heat on top of our horrid allergies, making March 25th one of the most miserable days for many of us in Shreveport.
Was it hotter than you remember most days in March? According to Chief Meteorologist Matt Jones with KSLA News 12, "Shreveport officially hit 91 today, breaking the old record of 89 set back in 1928!". Does this record mean that we are in for not just a miserable spring but a hotter summer than we anticipated?
According to the Farmer's Almanac, we should have braced for "higher-than-average temperatures for most of the country". So far, this weather prediction is looking to be true.
