Louisiana’s Roads Sure Aren’t Good, But They’re Not That Bad.
It's a common thing to hear in most parts of the country, "The roads here suck!" We hear it a lot in Shreveport and Louisiana at large, and yes, the roads here do suck, but driving in Louisiana isn't as bad as you would think.
- Louisiana ranks low in Road Quality
- Some states may have worse driving conditions than Louisiana
More than Just Potholes
Historically, Louisiana has struggled to keep its roads fully intact, mainly due to the state's unique weather year-round, which quickly wears down roads.
But the driving experience isn't just about how bad the roads are, Wallethub has compiled data to find what states are the best to drive in when considering costs of car ownership, insurance, traffic safety laws, and accessible maintenance in an area.
Overall the study found that Louisiana is among the states with worse driving conditions.
Louisiana's Not the Worst, But Not the Best Either.
While not the worst, Louisiana managed to outperform 22 other states as the 23rd worst state to drive in.
By using data like the number of crashes/accidents caused by distracted driving, car thefts per state, rush-hour traffic travel times, and of course road quality it has been found that Louisiana performs low in most metrics.
The cost of ownership, maintenance, and insurance as well as access to maintenance were the areas that Louisiana dropped the ball in the study, placing among the lower half of states in those categories.
Louisiana landed right in the middle of all states for infrastructure, meaning there are 24 states that have road quality worse than what we have here. According to the study Maryland has the worst road quality out of the entire country.
Louisiana was actually among the best states for safety on the road, the 15th best state for staying safe on the road.
