John Wesley Shipp Returns to Shreveport: Geek’d Con 2025 Features TV’s Original Flash
Back in 2015, Shreveport's comic con, Geek'd Con started in Downtown Shreveport. Not many people probably expected the event to still be going a decade later. But it's 2025, and Geek'd Con is coming back to the Shreveport Convention Center, August 22nd-24th.
This year's guest lineup already includes a 35th Anniversary "Shell-a-Bration" for the release of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Including voice actors Brian Tochi (Leonardo), Robbie Rist (Michelangelo), and martial artists Ernie Reyes, Jr. (Donatello) and Kenn Scott (Raphael). The four Turtles actors will be joined by Francois Chau, who portrayed The Shredder in the TMNT film universe as well.
Since Geek'd Con will be celebrating the event's 10th anniversary, there's a plan to bring back "fan favorite" celebrity guests from the previous 10 years. Which we got to see the first of today.
As Geek'd Con celebrates 10 years, here's Flash from the past. As heading to Downtown Shreveport once again is TV's original Flash, John Wesley Shipp!
Shipp appeared as the titular character in The Flash in the original 1990 TV Series (that means the show is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year too). In the series, Shipp played Barry Allen, also known as the superhero The Flash. The show ran for 22 episodes, which were also used to create three cult classic VHS movie releases. While it may have seemed the Shipp's time as The Flash ended with the 90s show, he'd have a chance to reprise the role over a decade later.
Shipp once again became The Flash in the 2014 TV series on CW. In this updated The Flash show, Shipp would initially serve as an "Easter egg" for long time fans, as he debuted as Barry Allen's father Henry in the first season. Eventually, Shipp would get a chance to be The Flash again, as he would play Jay Garrick, the "Golden Age" Flash.
Then, during the CW's numerous crossover events between the Arrowverse, Flash, and Supergirl universe, Shipp got another chance to portray Barry Allen's version of The Flash. He would play some version of The Flash in the shows Supergirl, Arrow, and Stargirl.
Between Flash runs, John was a main cast star on Dawson's Creek (playing Dawson's dad, Mitch) and Sisters, as well as roles in Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and Teen Wolf.
We should also note that Shipp is a 2-time Emmy Award winner. Snagging Daytime Emmy Awards for his work in As the World Turns and Santa Barbara.
Shipp previously appeared at Geek'd Con in 2018, and will be back as an anniversary guest this year.
