The sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Bossier Parish this past Saturday night ended up taking place in Haughton, LA and the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office says it resulted in multiple arrests.

The sobriety checkpoint started Saturday, February 10, 2024, at approximately 8 pm and was staged in the 900 block of HWY 80 in Haughton, LA. The weekend was pretty much a trifecta when it comes to partying, combining the final weekend of Mardi Gras, the Super Bowl, and Valentine's Day festivities. However, if you plan to let the good times roll, you need to plan on having a designated driver.

Unfortunately, even in 2024, with numerous ways to find a safe way home, people still tend to overindulge and get behind the wheel without regard for their safety or the safety of others. Remember, it's never okay to drink and drive. Always make sure that before you start your 'celebrations' you have a sober driver lined up or a ridesharing app ready to go on your phone.

Apparently, not everyone wanted to play by the rules Saturday. The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office with the help of Louisiana State Police from Troop G screened 828 vehicles and had contact with 1,105 people as a result. Two citations for various violations were issued and 13 field sobriety tests were administered resulting in two DWI arrests. One additional arrest was made for drug possession.

The funds to conduct the sobriety checkpoint were thanks to a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for DWI Enforcement.

Citizens are always encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers. The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office can be reached by calling (318) 965-2203 24 hours a day or residents can call 911 in case of an emergency.
