SHREVEPORT, LA – Louisiana is ranked just above Texas and 3 other states on a list of the best states to move to. But both states are at the bottom of the list of all states.
Consumer Affairs ranked the states based on 5 categories:
Affordability
Economy
Education and health
Quality of life
Safety
Louisiana is not at the bottom of the overall list, but we do score last in the country for our economy. We are ranked 25th for affordability. On education and health, the Bayou State is 41st. Our quality of life ranking is 46 and the safety ranking in Louisiana is 45.
Consumer Affairs ranked Texas dead for education and health. The affordability rate in Texas is a bit better at #41.
The data used by Consumer Affairs came from the U.S. Census, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Tax Foundation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Zillow, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Wisevoter, The Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the CDC and the FBI.
California comes in dead last on this report. New Mexico was next to last.
At the top of this list is Utah.
Utah gets to honors because it has the nation’s highest affordability score. The report also says Utah has very low property taxes and a higher income than many other states.
