Stormy weather is moving into the region and this system could bring some severe storms across parts of Louisiana.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has issued a Tornado Watch for a large portion of central and northern Louisiana, southeastern Arkansas, and central Mississippi until 7 p.m.

This tornado watch includes all of northeast Louisiana, but it extends across parts of northwest Louisiana to the Toledo Bend Reservoir.

Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center report the Monroe area could see strong to severe storms through Tuesday evening.  Some of these storms could produce damaging winds and/or tornadoes.

What Areas Are Expected to See Severe Weather?

The National Weather Service has issued the tornado watch across the region and say this region is in a 'Particularly Dangerous Situation'. This statement means our conditions are favorable for the development of the following:

  • Numerous tornadoes along with a few intense tornadoes
  • Long-track tornadoes are also possible in the watch area
  • Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter are likely
  • Scattered damaging straight-line wind gusts to 70 mph are likely

While Shreveport and Bossier is not included in this tornado watch, the following Louisiana parishes are:

Several tornado warnings were issued earlier in the day for areas north and northeast of Lake Charles.

There is an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon and tonight.
