August 5, 2015 Shreveport Officer Thomas LaValley Murdered While Answering a Domestic Call
I can not believe it's been eleven years since we lost a local hero. On August 5, 2015 Shreveport police officer Thomas LaValley was gunned down while answering a domestic violence call in the 3500 block of Del Rio Street in the Queensborough neighborhood. The suspect was threatening to kill members of his own family.
The gunman opened fire on Officer LaValley hitting him several times. He did not survive. LaValley was 29 years old and had been on the force for just four years.
SPD sent out this statement:
In just four years of service, Officer LaValley made a lasting impact on his fellow officers, this department, and the community he courageously served. His life was taken far too soon, but his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
We hope you will take a moment today to remember Officer LaValley for his bravery, his selflessness, and his willingness to place himself in harm’s way to protect others.
His fellow officers say Thomas LaValley is "Forever our brother. Forever our hero. Never forgotten."
LaValley's close friend Chris Redford tells KEEL News Thomas was a kind and caring person. Redford says "Not one day doesn’t go by, I don’t think about my friend. Rest in peace Thomas. We will never stop missing you."
