Shreveport Man Found Guilty of Shooting 2 Year-Old Child
A man was found guilty in Caddo Court for a 2020 shooting of a 2 year-old child.
Police were called out to Wagner Street when the shooting took place. 24 year-old Robert Mack Whitaker pulled a sawed-off shotgun on an SUV a shot at it four times. During the shooting the 2 year-old child was hit with shotgun pellets, and shattered glass from the windows.
The child was rushed to a hospital where emergency surgery was performed. The child survived the injuries and was able to be one of the State's 10 witnesses alongside the child's mother and grandmother.
In court Whitaker was found unanimously guilty as charged of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile by the jury after less than an hour.
The Caddo DA had this to say about Whitaker's upcoming sentencing:
Whitaker will return to court for sentencing April 23, 2025. He faces 15 and up to 40 years in prison due to a firearm enhancement filing, which if granted mandates a minimum of 15 years to be served without the possibility of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
