A man who shot a male acquaintance of his ex-girlfriend two years ago pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday, November 2, 2023 in Caddo District Court.
Marshall Adkins, 27, allocated before District Judge John D. Mosely Jr., for the slaying that occurred October 7, 2021, at a residence on Ockley Drive.
In the early morning hours that day, Adkins arrived at the Ockley Drive home of a friend looking for his ex-girlfriend. Adkins told his friend that if the woman was with Jonathan Bellot, he would shoot Bellot. Adkins called his former girlfriend and told her that he had a gun and was going to shoot Bellot.

When Bellot and the woman arrived at the Ockley house, Adkins emerged from the darkness armed with a rifle, which he pointed at the pair. Bellot rolled down his car window and Adkins struck him in the face with the rifle. The two men struggled over the rifle. Adkins ultimately regained control of the weapon and shot Bellot in the face through the car door window.

Adkins already is serving a 20-year sentence for possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The 25-year hard labor term Adkins received will be served consecutive to his current sentence. This was agreed to by Bellot's family, members of which addressed the court prior to sentencing.
Adkins was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Courtney N. Ray. He was defended by Leslie Kelly.
