Shreveport Man Arrested for Abusing a 7 Year-Old Child
Earlier this week, Shreveport Police were called to Tealwood Street to reports of a child being abused.
SPD showed up to the scene, and were told a 7 year-old child had been hit with a piece of lumber by his dad. Officers interviewed and checked the child, and they saw marks all over the child's body from where he had been hit with the piece of wood.
The child was brought to the hospital for medical treatment while Detectives with SPD's Juvenile Crimes Division got on the case.
While Police were investigating, the child's father Winston Taylor came back to the scene. Police talked to Taylor and found out that the problem started when the child got a 'C' in conduct at school. Taylor apparently became enraged by the grade and hit the child several times with a 1X2 wooden board on the face, buttocks, back, and legs
Winston Taylor was arrested and charged with one count of Cruelty to a Juvenile.
From SPD:
The Shreveport Police Department encourages all parents to remain engaged in their children’s lives and recognize that discipline can be a valuable part of parenting. However, using objects to hit or strike a child is highly discouraged and often results in criminal consequences. Any form of physical discipline should never leave bruises, lacerations, or lasting marks. Discipline, when deemed necessary, must always be administered in a controlled, appropriate, and legal manner.
