Louisiana Residents Shocked as Egg Prices Spike up 36.8%
Shocking news this week; as many US citizens anticipated grocery prices to see a quick decline, one of the most popular items at grocery stores has skyrocketed in price. This includes residents in Louisiana, who are seeing huge increases at their local stores.
We're talking about the price of eggs, which have skyrocketed 36.8%. Leading multiple financial advice websites at a loss for answers. Suggesting, at best, that people can save a little money through "buying in bulk".
The data on pricing comes from the Consumer Price Index, which puts the average price for a dozen Grade A large eggs at $4.15. Which is up roughly $2 a dozen. These are also national average prices, with some local prices being less than $4.15 a dozen, and some areas seeing prices higher than that. It also doesn't consider which store you're buying from...meaning some "premium" stores could be asking for even more.
Many expected grocery prices, including eggs, to start decreasing this week as President Donald Trump took office again. During the campaign, he ran very heavily on reducing the price of groceries. At a rally the day before Election Day, he told the crowd:
"A vote for Trump means your groceries will be cheaper....So many people mention groceries--a beautiful but simple word: groceries...You don't think of it that way, but that's what they mention more than anything: 'my groceries'."
Fox News Digital has reported that the expectation is for egg prices to continue to increase during the year. With an average price of $5 by the end of 2025.
This issue could have far reaching complications. With eggs being a main ingredient in numerous foods, the costs increases will not be limited to just "egg product". Baked goods, snacks, pastas, and other items all include eggs, which means those prices will increase as well.
