Shreveport Celebrates The Independence Bowl With a Week of Festive Events
The Independence Bowl is gearing up for another exciting season, having recently announced the extension of its partnership with Radiance Technologies, and now preparing for a December 30 kickoff that will bring college football fans from across the nation to Shreveport.
More Than Just a Football Game
Executive Director Missy Setters told KEEL News on Tuesday that the Independence Bowl Foundation is far more than a one-day event. Since its founding in 1975, the nonprofit has hosted year-round programs that highlight Shreveport-Bossier in a positive way.
From youth football clinics and a junior tennis tournament to a kickoff dinner with legendary coaches, the organization continues to build community spirit long before game day arrives.
A Week of Events for Fans and Teams
The Independence Bowl week begins December 26 when the teams arrive. Events include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Breakfast, tours of Barksdale Air Force Base, service projects at Holy Angels, and special outings for players and their families.

Public celebrations will feature the Chairman’s VIP Reception, a mini-Mardi Gras parade, the Battle of the Bands, and a free concert in the East Bank District. On game day, Coca-Cola Fan Fest at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds will set the stage for the 1 p.m. kickoff.
Celebrating 50 Years in Shreveport in 2026
The bowl, first played in 1976, will mark its 50th anniversary next year alongside Independence Stadium. Over nearly five decades, the game has featured more than 75 first-round NFL draft picks, future College Football Hall of Famers, and even Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees. Missy Setters notes that many teams arrive fresh off major bowl appearances, a testament to the game’s prestige.
Conference Tie-Ins and Possible Matchups
This year’s matchup pairs the Big 12 against Conference USA. ESPN’s early predictions have Houston and Baylor in the mix, which could bring a high-profile quarterback in either Connor Wigman or Sawyer Robinson. As the College Football Playoff expands, bowl committees nationwide are waiting to see how future alignments will affect scheduling, but for now the Independence Bowl remains committed to delivering a marquee game to fans.

Community Support and Membership
Local residents play a key role in keeping the tradition alive. Memberships start at $100, with benefits ranging from apparel to premium parking. Higher levels include exclusive dinners with notable sports figures such as Bert Jones. More information is available at radiancetechnologiesindependencebowl.com.
