Heat Warning Is Now in Effect for Northwest Louisiana
SHREVEPORT, LA - It's going to be another blistering hot day all across northwest Louisiana.
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning in effect today until 8:00PM.
Here's What the NWS Says:
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 expected.
This includes northwest Louisiana, northeast Texas and portions of south central and southwest Arkansas.
A warning is issued when a hazardous weather is occurring, imminent or likely.
What Should You Do in This Heat?
The number one rule is to stay hydrated. And this rule is in place for everyone, not just folks who work outside. You don't realize how this heat impacts all of us even if we are exposed to it for only a short period of time.
But if you do have to be outside, be sure to take frequent breaks and try to avoid being outside during the hot hours during the middle of the day.
Residents are also encouraged to look out for your neighbors. Check on the elderly and those who live alone.
But you are reminded it is now August and we typically see 100 degree temps during the month of August in Shreveport.
Doctors also advise you to be on alert for heat related illnesses. They typically see more of these cases during August in northwest Louisiana.
