Popular Forecaster Says “Pretty Good” Chance Shreveport Sees Snow
Online forecasters Ryan Hall has about 2.4 million subscribers on Youtube, and his videos regularly see millions of views. His forecast breakdowns are generally easy to follow, well-explained, and often accurate to how the weather actually plays out. Which is why we're paying attention to the video he just posted about the next winter storm heading into our area.
While the timing of the storm is still fluctuating, Ryan Hall (and other forecasters, including the National Weather Service) are convinced that temperatures will be dropping below freezing through East Texas and North Louisiana. In fact, some of the models shown by Hall in his video suggest those freezing temperatures will reach all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. That means New Orleans has a chance to see snow...or other wintery precipitation.
You can see Ryan Hall breakdown the forecast here, and the fact that he's looking at what the average prediction currently shows.
Hall talks about it in the video, we're still far enough out that the exact line of moisture-meets-freeze is not predicable. Which is why he's not definitively saying Shreveport will see snow, but rather that there's a "good chance" for Shreveport to see some.
It goes back to the taco metaphor to describe the difference between weather "watches" and "warnings". Which goes something like this...
During a "Taco Watch", you have all of the ingredients in the kitchen. There's taco shells on one counter, some meat in the fridge, unopened salsa in the cupboard, and shredded lettuce in sight. But its not a warning yet. The "Taco Warning" comes in when the meat is cooked, salsa and lettuce are in the shell, and your taco is prepared.
The reason we don't know how this will play out is that we can't predict where the moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will meet with the arctic temps. Like the recent winter storm we experience, the freeze/snow line happened on a line from the Dallas area to Little Rock, Arkansas. Which means Shreveport was south of that line, and just got rain. This time around, things could be different. We just won't know until its upon us.
