Grammy Winning Cox Family from Cotton Valley Featured at Tartan Festival
If you haven't yet experienced the Annual Scottish Tartan Festival in Minden, Louisiana, you've missed a genuine treat. A celebration of Scottish culture and heritage in a fun, family event that features genuine Scottish music, crafts, history, and Scottish food and games.
For years, the festival was held at Cameron Farms, just east of Minden. It was a great location with its rolling hills and even a herd of genuine Scottish Highland Cattle.
But a few years ago, the Festival had to move because of health reasons in the Cameron family. We wish all the best to the Cameron family. The festival found a new home in downtown Minden, Louisiana, at Miller's Quarters.
It's amazing they find a way to squeeze in so much entertainment in just one day. There will be Thistle Dancers, the Jackson Irish Dancers, a harpist, a haggis eating contest, bagpipes, a clan march, a dog show competition, the famous Scottish/rock band Cleghorn, and this year, get ready for the Grammy Award winning Cox Family from Cotton Valley.
The Cox Family have been continuing the tradition of bluegrass and country music for over seventy years. Sidney Cox, son of founding member Willard Cox performs with his daughters Anna, Sara, and Lydia. The band features classic instruments like banjo, mandolin, guitar, dobro, and fiddle. They are currently on tour, and scheduled to appear in Kentucky next weekend before their appearance at the Scottish Tartan Festival in Minden.
The family has performed with Alison Krauss, who they consider to be an "honorary member" of the family. They are featured on the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. They won a Grammy in 1995 for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel album, for their collaboration with Alison Krauss.
The Annual Scottish Tartan Festival will also feature Highland Games, a dog show competition, Scottish cattle herding, Gaelic language seminars and bagpipe music. There's also a children's area, clan tents, broadsword demonstrations, Scottish Highland beef-burgers, a hayride and of course, lots of music!
So find your kilt and be at Miller's Quarters in Minden, Louisiana Saturday April 12th for a bonnie good time!
