The recent "Freedom Convoy" in Canada not only garnered worldwide headlines, it brought our neighbor to the north to a halt as upwards of 10,000 truckers and their vehicles parked in the streets of the capital city of Ottawa. The question is, will a similar protest here in the USA be anywhere near as large?

Well, according to a number of reports, the people of Shreveport and Bossier City will find out later this week.

What is the 'Freedom Convoy?'

The US version of the trucker protest is called the American Freedom Convoy and it will be making its way through the Shreveport and Bossier City area, possibly as soon as Wednesday afternoon, barring slowdowns and delays.

There Will Be Six Convoys in All

According to the organizing website, Great American Patriot Project, truckers from all over the United States, starting from six different locations, will converge on Washington, DC. The actual arrival date in the nation's capital depends on traffic, weather and the number of trucks involved, but organizers are aiming for March 7.

And What About Shreveport, Bossier City?

And according to the convoy site, Shreveport and Bossier City are on the DC route originating in Weatherford, Texas, west of Fort Worth, on Tuesday, March 1.

And where is the Ark-La-Tex in all of this? Well, the Texas convoy is headed for Dallas, then north to Oklahoma City and east to Little Rock. From there, on the second day (Wednesday) it's south to Texarkana. The tentative schedule has the group heading south on I-49 Wednesday afternoon, then picking up I-220 to I-20 through Shreveport and Bossier City and on to Monroe and points east.

What is the Convoy's Goal?

And what is the convoy all about? Well, according to their site, "Freedom convoys are peaceful, non-violent, demonstrations by those who wish to express their constitutional rights."

The chief purpose of the protest is the end to COVID vaccine and mask mandates across the US. But the site also talks about restoring America's energy independence and securing the southern border with Mexico.
