Drivers who frequent I-20 in the Minden area just need to breathe deep and keep repeating to themselves; this will all be over this summer; this will all be over this summer.

For the past several months, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has been working feverishly to repair the LA 531 crossing over I-20, and while the construction has been challenging, the promise of a better road does have an attractive ring to it.

However, until the point of completion which is scheduled for this summer, there are plenty of times you'll probably want to avoid the area altogether.

One such time is coming next Monday and Tuesday, March 10 and 11, when the DOTD has advised they will close I-20 at LA 531, Exit 49, or the Minden/Dubberly exit, in both the eastbound and westbound directions, during the nighttime hours of 7:00 pm until 6:00 am.

All traffic will be detoured off I-20 onto the exit ramps in both directions at LA 531 and will then use the entrance ramp to regain access to I-20 after crossing LA 531.

In a notice from the DOTD, we learn the reason for the closure is to allow the contractor to safely remove various overhead construction equipment associated with the newly constructed overpass.

Of course, work will be done "Weather Permitting" so inclement weather could postpone, extend or alter any of the scheduled work days/hours.

The DOTD also posted this Safety Reminder about this nighttime closure:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
