Mother’s Day is usually a whirlwind of brunch reservations, floral arrangements, and social media tributes. But for some of us, the second Sunday in May feels a little quieter. It’s a day where the "hallmark" version of the holiday doesn't quite match the reality of our hearts.

Mother’s Day hits differently when you’re navigating it without her. Since losing my mom to cancer, I’ve realized that honoring her isn't about one Sunday in May, it's about seeing her in everything.

I find her in the morning light and the quiet moments of my day-to-day life here in Bossier. To anyone hurting this year: I see you. Grief isn't a season, it’s a lifestyle, but we don’t have to walk through it alone. Let’s find our own unique ways to keep their light burning together.

Finding Your Own Rituals

If this is your first Mother’s Day without her, or even your tenth, please know that it is okay to do things differently. I’ve found that the best way to honor my mom is through unique, personal celebrations that actually mean something to us. Maybe it’s ordering her favorite local takeout, visiting her favorite park, or simply wearing her favorite piece of jewelry while you run errands. There is no "right" way to grieve, and there is certainly no right way to celebrate a legacy that vast.

We’re in This Together

The most important thing I’ve learned is how vital it is that we show up for one another. If you have a friend who has lost their mother, send that text. Drop off a coffee. Let them know you remember her name, too.

To those of you who are hurting this year: I see you. I know that "missing her" isn't a season, it’s a lifestyle. But as we navigate this holiday, let’s try to find those small, unique ways to keep their light burning. Whether you're planting a garden or just taking a quiet moment to breathe, your love is the greatest tribute she could ever have.

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms we carry in our hearts every single day.
