The Natchitoches Christmas Festival is one of my favorite holiday events in this region. But things will be changing this year. The Festival Committee says the event will go on. But there will be no parade this year and you have to purchase an armband online ahead of time for the Saturday events. The event is planned for November 21 - January 6th. You will still get to enjoy fireworks, live music and food vendors. You are asked to social distance and wear a mask.

This is one of the most beautiful settings in our area for Christmas. The Christmas lights among the rose bushes and the rural woods is just spectacular. Several local choirs will be singing and there will be lots of events for young children to check out. Christmas in Roseland is a family tradition for many Shreveport Bossier residents. The event kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December 19th. Thirty-minute evening performance periods are available for:
Musical groups
Church choirs
Bell choirs
Clowns and/or puppet performers
Storytellers
Dance groups

This event will happen, but it will change a bit. It's being held on Saturday December 5th from 4:30-7:30. It will be “Drive through” only. There will be some food vendors, but no arts and craft vendors. The stage will be on the back of the festival building. Folks will stay in their cars to watch the fireworks. This is at Earl Williamson Park in Oil City right on Highway 1.

DECEMBER ON THE RED

For the first three Saturdays in December, check out Shreveport's newly renovated Riverview Park for great holiday fun. December on the Red features a Christmas Carnival on December 3rd. There will also be live entertainment from 4-6pm. Also, there's a free screening of the classic holiday film A Christmas Story at 6 p.m.

This is the grandfather of all charity events in our region. But there will be no in person Christmas in the Sky this year. This is a huge fundraiser for the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and it is all being done virtually this year. You are encouraged to make a monthly donation and be entered to win great prizes throughout the year.

BENTON CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE IS POSTPONED

I think this is the best family event going right here in Shreveport Bossier. The Benton Christmas on the Square Festival brings out the entire community. But this year, there will be no festival. It is postponed until 2021. This was a very difficult decision made by the Mayor, Town Council, and Christmas Festival Committee. The primary reason for the postponement is that it takes 9 months to plan. The parade has also been postponed.

WONDERLAND OF LIGHTS IN MARSHALL TEXAS

The 2020 Wonderland of Lights has been modified to adapt to state regulations and stop the spread of COVID-19. The downtown Courthouse area will still be lit up and downtown merchants will be open for shopping and dining. But there will be no ice skating this year. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available to enjoy though some regulations apply. Santa’s Village and train and carousel rides will also not be open this year to reduce the number of high-touch surfaces and restrictions regarding large gatherings.
