Hear Thomas Rhett’s New Single, ‘Life Changes’
Thomas Rhett has shared the title track of his third studio album, Life Changes, as his newest single. Readers can press play above to hear the song, which will be going for adds at country radio on April 16.
"Life Changes" is poppy, with a pounding piano-driven melody. The lyrics pull directly from Rhett's life: The first verse is about being in college and never expecting to actually make a career out of playing music; the second verse is about getting married to his wife Lauren at 22 and how she's become a celebrity herself; and the third verse talks about adopting their daughter Willa Gray while waiting on the birth of daughter Ada James. In the radio edit of "Life Changes," the the line in the third verse that says “Now Lauren’s showing, got one on the way” is changed to “Now there’s Willa, and sweet Ada James," to reflect Rhett's current family life.
"Ain't it funny how life changes / You wake up, ain't nothin' the same / Yeah, life changes / You can't stop it, just hop on the train," Rhett sings in the chorus of "Life Changes. "You never know what's gonna happen / You make your plans and you hear God laughin' / Life changes / And I wouldn't change it for the world."
Life Changes dropped in September. Rhett says the project, overall, is ” very nostalgic-feeling.”
“There’s a lot of songs that feel very nostalgic and, lyric-wise, talk a lot about being in high school and college, and how I got to this point in life,” he explains. “And [there’s] a lot of songs about how life has drastically changed over the last few years.”
