If you consider yourself a "gumbo aficionado" you definitely want to make plans to spend some time on Saturday, March 19 at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport for the return of the Volunteers for Youth Justice fourth annual Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators.

It's a gumbo cook-off fundraiser, to help abused, neglected and at-risk children throughout Northwest Louisiana. The event will feature approximately 50 gumbo teams battling for victory and a team of judges deciding who will be crowned “Ultimate Gumbo Gladiator.”

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness for VYJ as well as raise critical funds needed to make support services accessible to children and families who desperately need them.

Entrance to the festival is free, but you must purchase tickets to sample gumbo and vote for your favorite. A variety of soft drinks and adult beverages will be available for purchase.
