#GeauxNewtown — Louisiana Stands with Those Affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting
On December 14, Newtown, Connecticut suffered the very worst. Now, we want to show them the very best. Here are several ways Shreveport, Bossier City and all of Louisiana can show their love and support to those affected by the senseless tragedy.
Donate
United Way of Western Connecticut has set up the Sandy Hook School Support Fund to provide families affected by the shooting with assistance and myriad services.
Donations via credit card can be made here. Those interested in mailing a check donation can send them to the following address:
Sandy Hook School Support Fund
c/o Newtown Savings Bank
39 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470
Additionally, the Newton Memorial Fund has been set up to provide financial relief, including funeral expenses, to the families of those who lost loved ones. Donations will also go toward creating a fitting memorial for the deceased and bolster an annual scholarship fund for college-bound Newtown students.
Volunteer
If you'd like to go one step further (literally!) and volunteer in Newtown, you can call the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection at 1-800-203-1234.
Send Cards to Sandy Hook Elementary School
Folks who want to send their thoughts and prayers with a heartfelt card or note can do so by mailing them to:
Sandy Hook Elementary School
12 Dickenson Drive
Sandy Hook, CT 06482
Send a Newtown Child a Teddy Bear
"Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy" aims to bring just a little comfort to the children of Newtown. You can ship a teddy bear to a child until Friday, December 28 here:
Hersam Acorn
Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy II
1000 Bridgeport Ave.

Last but certainly not least, help us spread the word. We want to make sure everyone knows how they can help.
Share this post on your personal Facebook page; tweet it with the hashtag #geauxnewtown; and get old-fashioned by actually talking to people about it around the water cooler, the grocery store and the neighborhood.
The more people who know, the greater the positive impact we can make. Let's show those families who have suffered what no family should have to suffer some real Southern Hospitality.
