Charlie McCoy

That's my Dad.  Charlie McCoy.  And now his name will live forever in the annuls of bowling; at least on a local level.  Last night he was inducted into the Northwest Louisiana U.S.B.C. Bowling Hall of Fame.  Along with Dad, local lady bowler, Brinda Burks, was also inducted into the Northwest Louisiana Hall of Fame and long time local, professional bowler, John Sands, was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame.

Charlie McCoy is one of the very few bowlers who can boast that he's actually bowled on every lane of every bowling alley in the state of Louisiana.  He started bowling 55 years ago, back in 1958, and has spent countless hours in bowling alleys here locally and all across the country.

I've joked for years that my brother and sister and I, cut our teeth on the bowling balls at the long gone Tebbe's Bowling Alley on Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, while Dad was bowling.  He loves the sport and even at 70 years of age, still competes several times a week in local leagues and the occasional tournament or two.

And Charlie has spent of number of years spreading his passion for bowling as he's coached a number of high school and collegiate bowlers through personal lessons.  His biggest success to date was a young, autistic boy who had an average of 80 when Charlie began working with him.  At the end of a year, this young man had increased his average to just over 180.

Of course, if you ask me, I think his greatest accomplishment was his extremely talented oldest son; but that's another story for another day.

Congratulations Dad!
