SciPort Discovery Center- 820 Clyde Fant Parkway-  SciPort is always a great experience especially for the younger kids, featuring interactive science exhibits, an Imax Dome theatre, and right now they're offering Summer Blast Camps through August 12th.

Louisiana State Exhibit Museum- 3015 Greenwood Road, on the Louisiana State Fair Grounds.  I still remember the awesome dioramas, but the museum also features paintings, frescoes, and a gallery of Native American artifacts.  The art-deco building itself is worth the visit.

Shreveport Aquarium601 Clyde Fant Parkway- If you haven't taken the kids or grandkids to the aquarium yet... you're just missing out.  Don't be fooled by it's size... it's like the Tardis... it's bigger on the inside!  It features interactive exhibits, kids can pet a stingray, and there's the famous walk-under tunnel with sharks and beautiful fish swimming overhead.

The Sound of Music- Emmett Hook Center- 550 Common St.  This perennial family favorite is playing this weekend featuring a local cast telling the WWII era story of Maria, the postulate who falls in love with an Austrian Captain and his 6 children. But get tickets... this is the last weekend

Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park- 8012 Blanchard-Furrh Road-  From their website:

Located three miles west of Blanchard, the 160-acre nature park contains a pine-oak-hickory forest accessible by five miles of nature trails. The park has an interpretive building, a rentable pavilion with restrooms, a handicapped-accessible trail, and several naturalists who provide information and interpretation to park visitors. Nature oriented programs are available on an appointment basis.
