Your Blood Donation at LifeShare Will Get You a Free King Cake

On their website, the American Red Cross points out just how tremendous the need to maintain a healthy blood supply is in our country.

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation.

Seeing how great the need is for this healthy blood supply, one can also understand the dilemma when the winter months roll around and blood donations drastically fall short of the mark.

The Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies, AABB, writes "Due to holiday celebrations, inclement weather, and cold and flu season, the winter months are often a time of reduced donations and an increased risk for blood shortages."

To boost those much-needed donations at this critical time, LifeShare Blood Center is providing some increased incentive for any who might wish to donate.

Today and tomorrow, February 6 and February 7, those making blood donations at LifeShare Blood Center in Shreveport, Bossier City, or Texarkana will receive a Lilah’s Bakery king cake plus a limited-edition Mardi Gras donor t-shirt.

According to Mandi Johnson, Director of Community Engagement for LifeShare Blood Center, "Our donors allow others to live life to the fullest with each donation
they make, and that is definitely worth celebrating."

These king cakes will be available in-center only at all LifeShare donor centers today and tomorrow only, February 6 and 7, but so that all donors have the opportunity to take advantage of the promotion, LifeShare Blood Centers will offer extended hours these two days:

Thursday, February 6 - 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
Friday, February 7 - 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
