Finally! New Caddo Lake Bridge Set to Open Tomorrow
Great news for drivers in North Caddo Parish! The wait is almost over!
It has been three years that drivers on LA Hwy 1 near Oil City have had to take the long way around because the bridge over Caddo Lake was out.
According to an article from KTBS.com, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is set to open the new Caddo Lake Bridge making for a much shorter drive up Highway 1 in the Mooringsport area.
DOTD began construction of the new $17.3 million bridge in October of 2021 and closed the old bridge, which was constructed in 1940, in December of 2021, so, for the past three years, drivers were forced to make a detour through Mooringsport which cost those travelers an extra 10 to fifteen minutes for each trip.
KTBS states that there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the south side of the bridge near Drift Inn Landing at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 19. The ceremony is open to the public.
Immediately after the ceremony, those in attendance will be allowed to be the first to drive across the bridge once it's officially opened.
The bridge serves as an important connector between the Towns of Mooringsport and Oil City, as well as points north and south.
