Ernest’s Orleans Restaurant: The 77-Year History of a Shreveport Staple
If you’ve ever wondered why Shreveport's older generation refuses to stray from their favorite restaurant, the answer is simple: pure, unadulterated nostalgia.
A single social media post from Ernest’s Orleans Restaurant, a true Shreveport staple located at 1601 N. Spring St., recently sent locals taking a heartfelt walk down memory lane. Chef Ernest Palmisano, Jr. took to Facebook to share a piece of history that started back on May 8, 1947, when his father launched the Palmisano family restaurant scene.
Over seven decades later, the mission remains unchanged: serving the finest seafood, steaks, and Italian cuisine with unwavering dedication and impeccable service.
Chef Ernest recalled the business's glory days, remembering a well-oiled machine of loyal staff and weekly trips to New Orleans.
"There were times when I remember as a young boy that truck loaded down with 10,000 pounds of redfish in the rough, as well as 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of Louisiana speckled trout, fresh shrimp, crabs, and oysters," Palmisano shared. "As the second generation of this substantial, well-run business, I try to keep the same spirit of dedication and strong work ethic. I am a grateful man, to say the least."
The comment section immediately blew up with decades of cherished memories from loyal patrons.
Former locals and current residents alike chimed in with stories of special dates, family traditions, and childhood moments. DeWayne Stanley recalled driving 55 miles to the original riverfront spot right after getting married on New Year’s Eve in 1976. Another patron, Tamara Upson, remembered sitting at the bar in the 1960s while her dad picked up their famous marinated crab claws, noting that even living in coastal Florida now, no one compares to Ernest’s. Others shared memories of riding golf carts, celebrating engagements, and watching the late Ernest Sr. greet every guest like royalty.
Whether you're stopping in for their legendary crab claws, a classic filet, or cocktails and dancing in that signature vintage atmosphere, Ernest’s Orleans Restaurant isn't just a place to eat, it's a living piece of Shreveport history. What do you order when you go to Ernest's?
