The DeSoto Parish Waterworks office has issued a public notice about the condition of their water system following the discovery of a brain-eating amoeba in the water supply.


Public Notice

Waterworks District #1 in DeSoto Parish is initiating a “chlorine burn” in our system to combat the detection of the Naegleria Fowleri ameba in our system. Customers may notice a higher smell and taste of Chlorine in the drinking water, but levels of Chlorine will stay below maximums recommended by Louisiana DHH. Customers may also at times notice a slight discoloration of the water. This flushing program will continue until we have achieved the new standards of chlorine recommended by the Louisiana DHH.
