Daniel Cormier Wins UFC Title, Gets Challenged By Brock Lesnar
Daniel Cormier is officially the 'Baddest Man on the Planet' after winning the UFC Heavyweight Title Saturday night. It was a huge moment for the Lafayette native...not only did he become one of a handful of stars to hold gold in multiple weight classes (he's also the Light Heavyweight Champion) but he's only the second man to hold two titles simultaneously. And on top of all the accolades and championships, Cormier is in line for a HUGE payday.
After knocking out Stipe Miocic, 'DC' called out one of the biggest draws in professional sports, Brock Lesnar. And Brock was more than happy to accept the challenge. Cormier is 4th ranked pound for pound fighter in the world. Brock Lesnar is a world class athlete, a beast and a threat to everyone within arm's length. But then again, Cormier is no slouch either. Before joining the UFC, he was an Olympic Wrestler and won championships in every other major MMA promotion. So, it should be one heck of a fight.
During the post fight press conference, Dana White confirmed that DC's next heavyweight fight will be against Lesnar. However, Cormier may have to defend his Light Heavyweight title first. My guess is that Cormier v Lesnar will the main event for the November PPV and will be the most watched Pay Per View in UFC history.
Not bad for a boy from South Louisiana. Especially for one nobody in the MMA universe thought could or would reach such heights...at the age of 39.
