What Is the Haughton Milk Chug? Wild Local Tradition

One of my favorite content creators is from right here in our own backyard, and his rise to internet stardom is legendary.

Dalton Smiley climbed to viral fame from a backyard pool, mimosa in hand, with a readiness to mock anyone being "brave" during the pandemic. He instantly nailed it, hilariously calling out celebrities who were complaining about their "penthouse problems" while roughing it in their 20,000-square-foot mansions with broken bowling alleys.

But why is this Haughton native having me in absolute stitches right now? Dalton just launched a new podcast called "The Wash With Dalton," and he used his platform to expose a bizarre North Louisiana tradition I’ve actually known about for a while: The Haughton Milk Chug.

He painted the perfect picture of the crazy world of growing up in Haughton, where trucks meet up in a pasture just so everyone can chug gallons of milk. What makes his video pure gold is how utterly mortified his guest is by the whole concept. Dalton even dived into the brutal reality that everyone inevitably has to throw up at the end. After sifting through the TikTok comments, it’s safe to say the rest of the world thinks this is a very weird tradition, too.
