The Covid vaccine operation at the State Fairgrounds is back open on Monday. More people are now eligible for the vaccine.

Here are the groups now eligible:

Louisiana teachers, school support staff, day care workers and pregnant women. Also folks age 55-64 with qualifying health conditions can get the shot. Those health conditions include: cancer, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Down syndrome, several heart conditions, obesity, sickle cell disease, smoking and Type 2 diabetes.

Those over age 65 can also continue getting the vaccine, or the second dose if it's time for that.

This new procedure means that about 1.65 million Louisiana residents are now eligible to get the vaccine. Medical teams are encouraging you to pre-registration but it is not required.

The Fairgrounds operation is open each weekday from 8 am – 4 pm. If you do pre-register, you will get a two hour time block for your appointment in an email.

Galilee Baptist Church on Pierre Avenue will also administer vaccines on Thursday from 9 am – 3pm.

The old Chevyland on Linwood will also have vaccines Tuesday-Friday from 2pm- 5pm. But this is ONLY for healthcare workers, teachers, school support staff and daycare workers.

Webster Parish Fair Grounds will have vaccines on Tuesday, February 23 from 10 am –3pm  First dose vaccines will be available at this location.
