You’ll Never Believe What Survey Shows Is Louisiana’s Favorite Food

Reading the results of this recent survey about Louisiana's favorite cuisine conjured memories of the scene in "Christmas Story" where the family sits down for their Christmas dinner.

While the family would have much preferred the turkey that had been scarfed up by the neighbor's dogs, their second choice for the holiday meal was Chinese; specifically duck, which was horrifically beheaded at the table.

The reason this scene came to mind was a recent survey conducted by the social casino website Hello Millions which determined the most popular cuisines in each state according to their Google search popularity.

Survey Shows Louisiana's Favorite Cuisine Isn't Cajun or Creole

In Louisiana, this survey indicates that Chinese, not Cajun, is Louisiana's favorite cuisine.  Are you kidding me?  While I love a good Kung Pao Chicken as much as the next guy, I'd never take it over a beer flat of freshly boiled crawfish.

However, in this survey, based on the average number of monthly Google searches over the past 12 months Chinese was identified as Louisiana's most popular cuisine, with an average of 297.64 Google searches per month per 100,000 people.

In fact, nationally, Chinese cuisine was declared the most popular with rice, soy sauce, and noodles becoming staples in the kitchen. Some of the most popular Chinese dishes include Peking duck, sweet and sour pork, dim sum and chow mein.

Neither Cajun or Creole Even Made Louisiana's Top Five Favorites

Another scary finding of this survey was that neither "Cajun" nor "Creole" made the Top 5.  Hey, this is Louisiana; how could that be?  Evidently, we just don't Google "Cajun."  We already know where to go for the best.

Back to the survey; the findings show Mexican to be Louisiana's second favorite,  generating an average of 173.42 monthly searches per 100,000 people.  Third was Indian, which produced 156.14 searches per 100,000 people on average per month. 

Ranking fourth was Italian, with an average monthly Google search volume of 127.67 per 100,000 people. And rounding out the top five was Thai, which generated an average of 88.42 monthly searches per 100,000 people. 

So, there you have it.  No Cajun or Creole; not even a good old American grilled ribeye. These people really think we'd much prefer our shrimp in a fried rice.  I totally disagree.
