What is Chimp Enrichment? Learn and Help at Chimp Haven This Weekend
If you have been yearning for a reason to get outside and experience something truly wild, your lucky day is officially here. This weekend, you and your crew are in for a serious treat, because it’s time for Enrichment with the Chimps!
Did you know that the Shreveport-Bossier area is home to one of the most unique animal sanctuaries on the planet?
It’s true, Chimp Haven isn’t just a local treasure; it’s actually the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the world. We have something absolutely epic right here in our own backyard that deserves to be celebrated, and this Saturday is your chance to see it in action.
What is "Enrichment with the Chimps?"
This isn't your average tour. This Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Chimp Haven is opening its beautiful 200-acre sanctuary for a one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience (ages 7+).
So, what exactly does this experience include?
A Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Explore the sanctuary grounds and see where nearly 300 retired chimps live their best lives.
Hands-on Enrichment Making: This is the best part! You’ll actually learn about and help prepare the special treats and puzzles (enrichment) that keep the chimps' minds and bodies active.
The "Chimp Life" Glimpse: Get an up-close-and-personal look at how these amazing animals interact and play.
Exclusive Shopping: Enjoy private access to the Chimp Haven merch store to grab some gear that supports the mission.
Why You Can't Miss This
There is something so special about seeing these retirees enjoy their "golden years." As one past attendee put it: "The highlight was learning about the unique (and funny!) personalities of the chimps from the devoted staff who clearly have their best interests at heart."
Whether you’re a lifelong local or just visiting the 318, this is a "bucket list" Shreveport experience. Grab the kids (remember, ages 7 and up!), get some fresh air, and help make life a little more fun for our chimp neighbors.
