Call and Check Up on Your Law Enforcement Friends
All I feel today is heartbreak. Last night, we lost a mother, daughter, sister and a police officer. Officer Chateri Payne was a mother to a 2-year-old and her baby won't understand why their mommy isn't coming home. Officer Payne was gunned down outside of a home in Shreveport and was rushed to the E.R. where she passed away Wednesday night. You can read the full story here.
Yesterday, Wednesday, January 9th was Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. I enjoyed asking folks to send us some info to send out shout outs to the men and women who protect us every single day. Today I sit here wondering what we, as a community can do to make out community a brighter place. Knowing that our newly elected Mayor Adrian Perkins was on the scene last night gives me hope. I hope that every single police officer out there knows that they do matter, and their daily sacrifices don't go unnoticed. We wonder why police officers are on edge so often, reasons like what happened last night explain it all. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be the spouse or child of someone who wears a badge and protects our community every single day. I can't imagine how Shreveport Police Officers feel today. One of my best friends is an officer, she puts her life on the line daily and I can't thank her enough.
Are you friends with a law enforcement officer? Call them. Tell them how much you love them and appreciate them. Today we all suffer the loss of a wonderful human. A young rookie who was a dreamer and hoped to make a difference in her community. Today we honor the life of Officer Chateri Payne.
